Begin your Kedarkantha adventure early in the morning from Dehradun and embark on a scenic drive towards Kotgaon, a beautiful mountain village in the Mori region of Uttarkashi district. The journey covers approximately 195 km and usually takes around 10–11 hours, depending on road and weather conditions.

The drive takes you through the picturesque Himalayan foothills, passing charming towns and villages such as Mussoorie, Purola, Mori, and Naitwar. As the road gradually climbs into the mountains, the landscape transforms from the busy surroundings of Dehradun into quiet valleys, dense forests, terraced fields, and traditional Himalayan settlements.

The route follows winding mountain roads with beautiful views of the surrounding Garhwal Himalayas. Along the way, you can enjoy glimpses of the Tons River and the rugged mountain landscapes of Uttarkashi. The further you travel towards Mori and Naitwar, the more remote and peaceful the surroundings become.

After a long but scenic drive, you will reach Kotgaon, situated at an altitude of approximately 1,990 m (6,520 ft). Kotgaon serves as one of the approach villages for the Kedarkantha trek and offers an authentic Himalayan village experience away from the crowds of the more commonly used Sankri route.

Upon arrival, check into your accommodation or campsite and take some time to relax after the journey. Your trek leader and support team will conduct an introductory briefing covering the trek route, weather conditions, safety guidelines, packing requirements, and basic precautions for trekking at high altitude.

Spend the evening exploring the peaceful surroundings of Kotgaon and interacting with the local villagers if time permits. Enjoy a warm dinner featuring freshly prepared local and Indian cuisine before getting a good night’s sleep.

The following morning marks the beginning of your trek into the forests and high-altitude landscapes of Kedarkantha, so make sure your backpack, trekking shoes, warm layers, water bottles, and other essential gear are ready.
